100 Year old Gypsy Caravan

Shown here with shafts removed and steps in place.

This caravan has been the home of many gypsies in years past.  It is THE ONLY  stripe sided  "Reading Waggon" made by Bill Wright.  Bill Wright  was famous for  Bow-top caravans.

This caravan weighs about 2500 lbs.  It can be pulled by one gypsy cob like those shown here at
www.gypsyhorses.com.

Full front view

Steps and shafts have been removed.

That "little wheel" next to the steps is the brake.  It is designed to be a parking brake, and cannot easily be used for driving.

It can cost up to £10,000 (that's about $15,000!) to have one of these painted.

Notice the detail in the front side panels.  These are carved wood - as are all detailed surfaces.

That is the owner polishing part of the undercarriage.

Detail of the front door

Notice the name, "Ryan Lee" just below the door knocker.

Also notice the etched glass.

The design on the front door of these original caravans can be used to determine the date it was built.  Certain designs were "in Style" in certain years.  The "sunflower" and "ponies" were quite common.

Just an example of a pony in the artwork.  This artwork is not on this caravan

Detail of right front wheel and undercarriage.  You can also see the shafts leaning against the wall to the right of the picture.

View of the Rear.  The waggon was parked against a wall in back, so I wasn't able to get a good angle on it.
My back was against the wall - so to speak.
This is a shot of the rear as well.  Notice the name again, "Ryan Lee" on the pan box.

I am told that Ryan Lee is the name of the original owner's son.

Interior - wide angle view

The tile work on the left side of the picture is the cooking area where the stove would be. The stove could be used for cooking and comfort heating.  Much of the cooking was also done outside on the campfire.  There is a metal stovepipe going up through the roof.  The stoves that fit into these authentic caravans are very valuable to antique dealers.

Interior - close-up view

Beautiful Woodwork.  All handmade of course.

Close up of the bed area.

That looks so comfortable.  Notice the etched glass again, and the oil lamp on the right.

This caravan is available to us for sale.  It is not being actively advertised, but is made available to us privately.  If you are genuinely serious about the possibility of owning this genuine piece of history, please contact us.

When we went to look at this, we found it was locked and the owner did not bring the key.
I was only able to photograph the interior through the front windows which were unlocked.

The pictures don't do it justice.  We can arrange to have it pulled out into the sunlight and properly photographed.

It is not common to find an authentic caravan like this.  They are often times burned when their owner dies.

It is in England and would be shipped to the USA.

Price:  $37,000 plus freight. (Exchange rate has gone up to the US, so the price has gone up a bit on this wonderful waggon.  If the rate comes back down, we will re-adjust the price).

THIS WAGON IS SOLD

You may wonder why I spell waggon with two g's?  No, it's not poor spelling skills, it's  the British spelling!
