Traditional gypsy-built imported flatcart

This is our personal flatcart, the one that's been all over this country and in events everywhere.  This cart has been all around England, down the streets of Burbank in rush hour traffic and in parades and showrings coast to coast!  It's just been reworked, and is beautifully repainted now so it is like brand-new!  This cart is in the book mentioned above as well, and in fact this cart played heavily in the production of the photos for the book, as many were taken from onboard this cart in order to get right into the action!  Above is Babydoll pulling it in a show (Gary Smith driving).  Her harness is a white-trimmed harness is also available, ask for price if you like the white trim instead of the red or yellow trim.  Price for this cart (in Colorado) - $8000.  (More pics of cart and harness available, but if you check out the "Events" page of this site you will see other pictures of this cart, as we have used it everywhere!  Just look in the pics for the black cart, although it's now red!

More pictures of the flat cart see the events pages for the National Western Stock Show and the Rocky Mountain Horse Expo.
(Incidentally, this is one of our "fun photos" as well.  Those are police officers from the Denver Mounted Patrol that Babydoll is giving a ride to.   Usually, the "cops" are chasing the gypsies, not riding along with them!)

NEW pictures of the black flatcart, now RED!  It's just been refinished beautifully by Bob Olson of Olson Carriage in the Black Forest (www.olsoncarriage.com ).  He did a great job with his first gypsy vehicle, his years of experience in making fine carriages, carts, and coaches really paid-off when it came to refinishing our gypsy vehicle!  It looks better than it did when new!  Jeff and some of our horses have been seen around at shows and events using it already this summer, he and Sparky turned heads at the "National Drive" in KY with this flashy cart behind a very flashy horse!  Jeff prefers to drive proper gypsy style, in a cart without a seat!  If you do much purposeful gypsy driving, you will find out why most gypsy people remove their cart seats pretty quick after getting a gypsy cart!  They are just in the way for you holding more people and cargo, and it's so easy to hop on and off when you just ride on the corner in traditional fashion!

Above is Bob Olson himself taking a spin on the flatcart after it's all finished!  He had never had the chance to drive one before!  Of course, you will notice in these 2 pictures of it being used, Bob and the other american driving it were both driving from the American side.  When Jeff, Gary Smith, or one of us drive it, it feels odd to drive it from the right-hand, "American" side, after so many miles going in England from the other side!
The other "American" driver, above, is Todd Draheim, our driving trainer and clinician from our December, 2006 open house event!  He was new to driving gypsy vehicles too, but got the hang of it just fine!  They sure looked sharp going down the road! (and his partner on his "Sunday drive" is none other than our good pal Judy Brodland, who loves to take Babydoll for spins no matter what it is she's pulling!)
Note:  the space for writing your name and initial on the back and front of the cart was left open for whoever ends up purchasing this beautiful cart.  We can have this filled in for you before the cart leaves if you like, to have your own, personalized, proper gypsy cart!  We will only charge actual expenses of what it takes to get the painter again for an hour or so to get it personalized.

Also available:
One more 4 wheeled dray about the size of the one above (smaller and more compact than the green one, but fits a full-sized horse).  It's already in the USA (Texas at the moment, then Colorado).  This one is ready to finish, it's based-out in red paint, and brand new!  It's ready to use as-is as well, if you don't prefer it so fancy with all the gypsy glitz and glitter.  It's wheels are on rubber channels, so it's a nice quiet ride going down the road!  This brand-new dray is ready for a parade tomorrow!  Price $17,000 from Colorado

More pics available.

Items shown below have been sold

Traditional gypsy-built imported flatcart

This red flatcart is also available for sale, it's a really flashy pretty one that catches the eye anywhere you go!  It's been recently painted and is just gorgeous and looks in like-new condition.   Before it was painted, this cart was dark blue, and was (coincidentally) featured in the new gypsy book from a river-picture from last year!   It was also featured in the Border TV story, as mentioned before.  SOLD

This pic is Mercedes the mare after taking us and a friend (that's Jeff at the lines, and Thomas climbing on the cart) down to the town for some socializing and some fish and chips for dinner.  She will just patiently wait while you do anything you want, and then take you to wherever you want to go afterward.  She's been a pub-crawling mare for her past owner, so she knows how to take care of "her" people (a pub-horse is one that the gypsy guy will drive to the pub (presumably sober when he goes there), and that will quietly take him home after a long nite drinking when he's not in such great shape for driving any-longer!).

Also available, another red flatcart cart that looks the same in type and color to the one above, but is a better-made cart.  It has a seat as well, but also has lamps and more carving and detail to it.  Here are two pics, more pics available if interested.   Price:  $11,000. (in Colorado)  SOLD

Traditional Gypsy-built dray (4 wheeled flatbed wagon)

This green dray is a good bit larger than the red dray (Below).  This one is the size that you would build a wagon bow on the top for an accommodation wagon, it's full-sized.  This dray is featured in several places in the new book "Gypsy Horses and the Travelers Way" by John Hockensmith, as Jeff drove it across England with a group of gypsies the year after he drove our bowtop wagon with the same gypsy family. (This dray is actually on the dustcover of the hardback book!) -  That's the good mare "Ginny" pulling it last season, and as you can see Jeff was the "support vehicle" for the troop, he carried the water, firewood, teakettle, and all the necessities for life on the road.  He used a piece of carpet (which u can see hanging off the side in some of the pics) to protect the paint, and the make the ride for him a bit nicer.  This type of dray rarely has a seat, as seats make it hard to carry all that you need to carry (in traditional gypsy fashion).  Yes, there is water in those jugs, and that teakettle was used at every stop!  It's not just a pretty picture!  Price (in Colorado):  $19,000   UPDATE - We have just sent the green dray in to get rubber "channels" put on it's wheels to make for a nice, quiet ride on the road.  The price for it now with the "upgrades" is $20,000 (it actually coat $1200 so that we could get it done right, in the traditional fashion, but we are only adding $1000 to the total cost for this great new feature).  We are currently using this vehicle in parades and at events, and love it with the rubber on the wheels, but it is still available for sale whenever someone wants to have it.  SOLD

December 9, 2006.  Just after arriving in the USA, Jeff and Dinah (and Gary Smith) take a load of kids from our big December open house event for a spin around the neighborhood in true gypsy style!).  The green dray had come a long way, but is no worse for the wear!

Above is a pic of the dray used at the Rocky Mountain Horse Expo in March, 2007, just after getting the rubber put on it's wheels.
For more pictures of it at this event, see Mocha's Page.

Jeff and Marie enjoy their trip to the 7-11 for coffee and donuts, and to gas up Dinah for the trip back through Denver :)
We've had much fun with this dray!
