Rio Grandé
Gorgeous proven 10 year
old, well broke stallion
Yes! Rio is back.
He spent the last few months with a family in California, but due to unforeseen
circumstances, they must part with him. Their bad luck may be your great
find of the year. Now you can have Rio in time for the 2008 breeding
season!
Here he is, the one
and only Rio Grande! There has been lots of "buzz" about this boy since
his first pictures appeared as a stallion that we were offering mares
in-foal-to. This guy is just gorgeous, and stunning, and of the type that
American gypsy breeders as well as English gypsy breeders can appreciate!
No sacrificing quality and heaviness for size and color with this boy, he's got
it all and he's a very proven stallion. We have used him this past season on numerous mares, and all but one of those mares caught in foal on the
first breeding with this guy! He's very nice-natured, and easy to handle,
and enjoys attention. He rides and drives, and is so quiet that anyone can
do anything with him. He's such a fun horse to own. Rio lives well
with mares, or breeds in hand with ease.
He is incredibly friendly and easy to work with and be around. He's one of
those stallions you can take to a show or parade, and people will never believe
he's a stallion for the way he behaves. He is just as kind in the
pastures. He'll breed your mares, but won't run them around. He'll
look after them carefully, but will not complain if you need to take one away.
A true story of Rio last fall
|
Rio arrived in Southern California last October.
During his stay there, he was kept separate from the mares as his owner
did not want the mares bred that late in the season. When raging
wildfires threatened their home, Rio was set loose with the mares and left
to their own to escape the flames (Apparently this is commonly done),
while the family was evacuated. Shortly thereafter, the fires
changed course, and the evacuation was rescinded. Now the family was
faced with the task of finding their horses and getting them back home.
Upon returning home, they were surprised to find that Rio had gathered up
the mares (6 of them) plus their foals, and brought them back home when it
was safe. His owner was in tears seeing what he had done, and it
breaks her heart to part with him. |
A stallion like this only comes once-in-a-lifetime.
You won't be disappointed with this boy, and neither will your mares. I
don't expect him to last long.
Price: $35,000
A
couple of new pictures from summer, 2007, during his busy breeding season.
Rio will have around 25 foals in 2008, and he settles mares on the first cycle
the vast majority of the time (some of them even in odd months like December!)
Rio is also a very easy keeper, he stays looking just as good just out on
pasture with all those mares!

Rio at BFSGH in September, 2006. He's just a gorgeous boy, even though not
clean :(, and so nice to be around!

England shots of Rio. Sorry they aren't great, I was
having camera issues at that time.

Cute even with a "bad hair day" :)

He was WAAAYYY far away, and my camera didn't like it much, but he was so cute
just dozing there, I had to try to get a pic.

Not cleaned and washed, but still some mighty-fine hair!
